When Should You Get a Facial Before a Wedding or Special Event?

When should you get a facial before a wedding or event? Learn the best timing for HydraFacial, dermaplaning, peels, microneedling, lashes and brows near Richmond, VA.

Adorn Society Aesthetics · 2026-10-12 · Skincare Education | Event Prep

Your event is on the calendar.

The outfit is planned.

The photographer is booked.

And now you're wondering:

When should I get my facial?

Whether you're preparing for a wedding, family photos, graduation, vacation, reunion, gala or another special occasion, timing your skincare treatments correctly matters.

At Adorn Society Aesthetics in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, our goal isn't simply to make your skin look great the day you leave the treatment room.

We want your skin looking its best when your event actually happens.

And sometimes that means planning a few weeks ahead.

How Far Before an Event Should You Get a Facial?

For a gentle facial or familiar low-downtime treatment, scheduling approximately one week before your event can be a comfortable window for many clients.

But there isn't one timeline that works for every treatment.

Some services are designed around hydration and an immediate refreshed appearance.

Others intentionally create inflammation, exfoliation or skin remodeling and need more recovery time.

Your ideal timing depends on:

  • The treatment you're receiving
  • Whether you've had it before
  • Your skin sensitivity
  • How much downtime is expected
  • Your current skin condition
  • How important the event is

One rule we strongly believe in:

The week before your wedding is not the time to experiment with your skin.

If you've never had a treatment before, give yourself extra time.

HydraFacial Before an Event

HydraFacial is one of our favorite options when the goal is hydrated, smooth, refreshed-looking skin with minimal expected downtime.

HydraFacial itself currently uses 7–10 days before an event as an example when discussing event-ready treatment planning.

That is a great general window for someone who wants time for any temporary redness or sensitivity to settle while still enjoying the hydrated, polished appearance of the treatment.

At Adorn, your HydraFacial may focus on:

  • Hydration
  • Congestion
  • Extractions
  • Dullness
  • Texture
  • Overall skin radiance

If you've had HydraFacials before and know exactly how your skin responds, your individual timing may differ.

For a first treatment before an important event, we prefer to leave ourselves more breathing room.

Dermaplaning Before an Event

Dermaplaning can be another beautiful pre-event option.

The treatment removes superficial dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, which can leave the skin feeling smoother and may help makeup apply more evenly.

For an established dermaplaning client, scheduling the treatment several days to about a week before an event may work well.

However, dermaplaning is still exfoliation.

Temporary redness or sensitivity can occur, so we wouldn't recommend making your first-ever dermaplaning appointment the night before wedding photos.

The goal is smooth skin.

Not stressed skin.

What About a Customized Facial?

A customized facial can be one of the easiest treatments to adjust around an upcoming event because we can tailor the intensity to the skin.

If your event is approaching, we may focus more heavily on:

  • Hydration
  • Barrier support
  • Gentle exfoliation
  • Calming ingredients
  • Appropriate extractions
  • Radiance

and avoid unnecessarily aggressive treatment.

This is especially helpful if your skin feels:

  • Dry
  • Dull
  • Congested
  • Dehydrated
  • Stressed from travel
  • Slightly out of balance

Sometimes the best pre-event facial isn't the strongest one.

It's the one that helps your skin look healthy, calm and well hydrated.

When Should You Get a Chemical Peel Before an Event?

Chemical peels need a little more planning.

Recovery varies significantly depending on the type and depth of the peel.

Even a light peel may cause temporary redness, dryness, flaking or visible scaling.

More corrective peels can involve significantly more downtime.

For an important event, we generally prefer to perform a chemical peel well enough in advance that the skin has fully completed its expected recovery period.

This might mean several weeks before the event depending on the peel being performed.

If you're planning:

  • A wedding
  • Professional photographs
  • A major celebration

this is not the time to gamble on whether your skin will finish peeling by Saturday.

We want your peel finished working, not visibly working, when the cameras come out.

What About Microneedling?

Microneedling is a completely different type of treatment from a glow facial.

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries to stimulate the skin's healing and collagen-remodeling processes.

After treatment, temporary effects can include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Tightness
  • Dryness
  • Flaking
  • Sensitivity

Redness and swelling may remain for several days, and the improvements we're looking for develop gradually over the following weeks and months.

That means microneedling is not a last-minute event treatment.

If you have a major event approaching, we prefer to plan microneedling well in advance rather than trying to squeeze in one final treatment days beforehand.

Microneedling is about long-term skin improvement, not next-day glow.

Lash Lifts Before an Event

A lash lift can be a wonderful addition to event preparation because results typically remain noticeable for several weeks.

If you're considering a lash lift for a wedding, photographs or vacation, we generally prefer not to schedule your first-ever treatment immediately before the event.

Giving yourself several days allows you to:

  • Make sure you love the result
  • Complete the initial aftercare period
  • Allow any minor temporary irritation to settle
  • Become comfortable styling your lifted lashes

Lash lift results commonly last around 6–8 weeks, depending on the natural lash-growth cycle.

That means there is usually no need to book it at the absolute last minute.

What About a Korean Lash Lift?

The same planning principles apply to a Korean lash lift.

Because the treatment chemically reshapes your natural lashes, the result lasts much longer than one evening.

Scheduling it several days before an important event generally gives you plenty of time to enjoy your results without rushing the process.

If you're trying a Korean lift for the first time, even more reason to plan ahead.

Your wedding morning shouldn't also be the morning you're figuring out whether you like a completely new lash shape.

Brow Lamination Before an Event

Brow lamination can help create a fuller-looking, more polished brow using your existing natural brow hair.

Because tinting and waxing may also be incorporated into the brow appointment, some temporary redness or skin sensitivity is possible.

For a major event, we prefer giving the brows several days to settle rather than laminating and waxing immediately before photographs.

Again, the treatment lasts for weeks.

There's no benefit to cutting the timing unnecessarily close.

What If Your Event Is One Month Away?

This is a great position to be in.

With approximately four weeks, we have time to evaluate your skin and decide whether you need:

  • A corrective treatment
  • A chemical peel
  • Microneedling
  • Acne-focused care
  • Hydration
  • A professional home-care adjustment

We can then transition toward gentler, glow-focused treatments as the event approaches.

For weddings in particular, we'd much rather meet you months before the wedding than meet your skin for the first time seven days before it.

Long-term results are easier to create when we have time.

What If Your Event Is Two Weeks Away?

At the two-week mark, we start becoming more conservative.

If you're an established client and we know how your skin responds, there may still be several appropriate options.

But this generally isn't the time we'd introduce a highly corrective treatment simply because you suddenly noticed every pore in the mirror.

Our priority becomes:

Calm. Hydrate. Smooth. Maintain.

We don't want to create a new problem while trying to fix a small one.

What If Your Event Is One Week Away?

Now we're firmly in event-prep mode.

Depending on your skin and treatment history, options may include:

  • HydraFacial
  • Customized facial
  • Dermaplaning
  • Hydrating treatments
  • Lash lift
  • Brow services

We typically want to avoid introducing aggressive correction at this point.

One week before an important event is not the time to suddenly decide:

“Maybe I should finally try that strong peel.”

Save correction for later.

Right now, we're protecting the skin you've got.

What If Your Event Is Tomorrow?

Keep it simple.

If your skin looks good:

Leave it alone.

Seriously.

This is not the moment for:

  • A brand-new peel
  • Aggressive exfoliation
  • Picking your skin
  • Trying a new retinoid
  • Using five new skincare samples
  • Squeezing every pore you suddenly noticed under bathroom lighting

Focus on:

  • Gentle cleansing
  • Hydration
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunscreen
  • Sleep
  • Leaving your face alone

Sometimes the best treatment the day before an event is restraint.

A Simple Event Skincare Timeline

One Month or More Before

This is the time to work on larger concerns.

Depending on your skin, we may consider:

  • Microneedling
  • Chemical peels
  • Acne-focused treatments
  • Corrective skincare
  • Pigment-focused care

Two Weeks Before

Begin transitioning from correction toward maintenance.

Focus on:

  • Hydration
  • Barrier support
  • Familiar treatments
  • Keeping your skincare consistent

7–10 Days Before

This can be a great window for familiar low-downtime treatments such as:

  • HydraFacial
  • Customized facial
  • Dermaplaning when appropriate

HydraFacial specifically uses this timing in its own event-treatment planning guidance.

Several Days Before

Consider finishing beauty services such as:

  • Lash lift
  • Korean lash lift
  • Brow lamination
  • Brow tinting and shaping

This allows time for the finished result to settle before your event.

The Day Before

Do less.

Hydrate.

Use familiar skincare.

Wear sunscreen.

Don't pick.

And resist the urge to perform a bathroom-counter chemical peel at 10 p.m.

Your skin will thank you.

Planning Wedding Skincare? Start Earlier Than You Think

If you're preparing for a wedding, we recommend thinking about skin as early as possible.

A wedding skincare plan might include several months of:

  • Consistent home skincare
  • Acne management
  • Pigmentation correction
  • Microneedling
  • Chemical peels
  • HydraFacials
  • Customized facials

followed by gentler treatments as the wedding approaches.

The biggest advantage of starting early is that we can make adjustments.

If something doesn't agree with your skin, we have time to change course.

If your skin responds beautifully, we have time to build on those results.
