Benzoyl peroxide has been used in acne treatment for decades and remains one of the ingredients dermatologists strongly recommend for acne.

It works in part by reducing Cutibacterium acnes, bacteria involved in inflammatory acne.

But stronger isn't automatically better.

Higher concentrations can increase dryness and irritation, which is why acne products need to be introduced thoughtfully.

What About Salicylic Acid?

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid, or BHA.

Because of the way it interacts with oil, it can help exfoliate within clogged pores and is particularly useful for concerns such as:

• Certain acne breakouts

MIXI incorporates salicylic acid into some of its acne-focused products.

But this is another ingredient where more isn't necessarily better.

What Is Mandelic Acid?

MIXI also offers an 8% mandelic acid product.

Mandelic acid belongs to the alpha hydroxy acid, or AHA, family.

It provides chemical exfoliation and can be useful in routines addressing acne, texture and post-acne discoloration.

Because mandelic acid has a larger molecular structure than glycolic acid, it tends to penetrate more slowly, which is one reason it is often considered when a gentler exfoliating approach is desired.

That doesn't mean mandelic acid can never irritate the skin.

It's still an active exfoliating ingredient and needs to fit appropriately into the rest of your routine.

What Is Hydroxi?

One of the more unusual products in the MIXI line is Hydroxi Acne Cream.

MIXI currently lists its main ingredients as:

• Hydrogen peroxide
• Salicylic acid
• Retinyl palmitate

The brand positions Hydroxi as an option for mild acne and for some clients who cannot tolerate benzoyl peroxide.

This is an area where we want to be especially careful with the science.

Salicylic acid has established evidence in acne care.

Hydrogen peroxide has antimicrobial properties, but it does not have the same level of guideline support for acne treatment as benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoids or salicylic acid.

So at Adorn, we don't assume that a product is automatically the best choice simply because it is labeled for acne.

We look at the entire formulation and the individual skin in front of us.

Acne Skin Still Needs Hydration

One of the biggest misconceptions about acne is:

“My skin is oily, so I don't need moisturizer.”

Acne treatments such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and retinoids can all contribute to dryness and irritation.

A properly selected moisturizer can help support the skin barrier and make an acne routine easier to tolerate.

Where Does Hypochlorous Acid Fit In?

MIXI Mist contains hypochlorous acid, or HOCl, along with electrolyzed water and sodium chloride.

Hypochlorous acid has antimicrobial properties and is used in dermatologic and wound-care settings.

In skincare, HOCl sprays are often used as a gentle supportive product for irritated or blemish-prone skin.

We view it as a supportive skincare tool, not a replacement for established acne medications when those are needed.

Again, different products have different jobs.

Why We Don't Treat Every Breakout the Same Way

One of the reasons we like having a professional acne-focused line is that acne skin changes.

At one appointment, your skin may be:

• Very congested
• Oily
• Experiencing active inflammatory breakouts

Several weeks later, those breakouts may be improving—but now your biggest concerns are:

• Dryness
• Sensitivity

Acne treatment shouldn't stay aggressive simply because your skin used to need aggressive treatment.

What About MIXI Professional Peels?

How Long Does Acne Treatment Take?
